PREPARING ART FILES

Adobe Illustrator Files

Latest acceptable Version 11.0 (CS)

• Outline all fonts
• Embed or include all art files
• Be aware that using transparencies in any vector editing software like Illustrator may cause random elements within a document to rasterize unexpectedly. This can be identified by chunks of text or sections of artwork appearing pixilated or jagged. We recommend NOT using vector transparencies in order to ensure that your graphics will print properly and your turn time is not affected by delays due to graphic repair.

Adobe Photoshop Files

Latest acceptable Version 8.0 (CS)

• Minimum resolution of 300 dpi
• Acceptable file formats are TIF, EPS and PSD
• If saving in TIFformat, DO NOT use LZW image compression
• If saving in EPSformat, DO NOT use JPEG encoding, DO use ASCII
• DO NOT use JPEG format when saving files

Adobe In Design Files

Latest acceptable Version 3.0 (CS)

• Use Create Package feature under the File menu to include all art files
• To decrease the probability of font conflicts, outline all fonts

Quark XPress Files

Latest acceptable Version 6.1

• Use Collect for Output feature under the File Menu to collect all font and art files.
• If you are using QuarkXpress we would advise you to stay away from using menu styles on your fonts to print bold, italic, or any other menu style. This may cause your text to default and print unexpected results because there is not actually a bold or italic font. Postscript printers require that you have a supplied font for each typeface including bold versions etc. in order to translate the file properly. In addition please do not link your text boxes.

Common Problems When Submitting Art Files

• Failure to include fonts; please make sure that all fonts have been included.

• Failure to include all linked images.  Before you send in your job, make sure you’re sending in all linked files. Each application has a different way of checking this. In Quark XPress, use the Collect For Output feature. Illustrator has links options which will list all placed images.

• Image resolution is too low or supplied in RGB instead of CMYK.

• We cannot print RGB Colors. All files must be supplied in CMYK.

• Insufficient bleed; all color sides require a minimum 1/8th” bleed.
  
• All digital photographs must be supplied at a resolution of at least 300 DPI.
